Is gap insurance required in Wisconsin?

After moving from Florida to Wisconsin for work, I was shocked by how harsh the winters are. As a result, I’m trading in my convertible for a new SUV. I haven’t had a car loan in years, so I’m not sure if I need additional insurance. Does Wisconsin legally require gap insurance?

Florida
to
Wisconsin
. You’re probably suffering from a bit of culture shock, as well as a shock from the weather. So if you want to buy a more capable car, you’ll be glad to know that
gap insurance
is not legally required in Wisconsin.
However, you may want to consider gap insurance in one or more of these scenarios:
  • You make a down payment of less than 20%.
  • You take out a

    that’s longer than 60 months.
  • You can’t afford the current difference between the car loan balance and the actual cash value if your car is totaled.
  • You purchased a car model that depreciates more quickly than other models.
