Is a GMC Terrain considered a midsize SUV?

I’m interested in getting a midsize SUV, but I’m not sure which one to pick. However, I like the look and style of the GMC Terrain, so I thought that might be a good option. Is the GMC Terrain technically a midsize SUV?

A great question—the GMC Terrain was a midsize SUV during its first-generation run from 2010 to 2017. However, that all changed with the debut of the second generation. In 2018, the GMC Terrain officially became a small crossover SUV, the GMC Acadia became the midsize option, and the Yukon stayed in the full-size slot in the GMC lineup.
Despite being the smallest SUV in the GMC lineup, the Terrain offers some features that include:
  • Up to 63.3 cubic feet of cargo space
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Up to 30 mpg on the highway and 26 mpg in the city
  • Five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
