Is a BMW 3 Series a good first car?

We may have made a mistake. We promised our daughter that if she made straight A’s all through high school, we’d buy her a BMW. Guess what? She did it! This will be her first car, so are we making a good choice with a 3 Series?

Congratulations to your daughter for earning such great grades, and, well, good luck with your purchase. On the plus side, BMWs are some of the most popular cars on the market, so your daughter is sure to love her new ride—but does that make a BMW 3 Series a good first car?
A BMW 3 Series can be a great first car for a confident driver with a lot of practice behind the wheel. But it’s a lot more expensive than the downlevel BMWs because it packs in a lot more features and better performance—together, these equal a high price tag and high car insurance costs. To keep your costs lower on both ends, we’d recommend you aim for a 1 Series instead.
No matter which BMW you choose, you’ll be in for some pretty high prices on car insurance to cover a young driver behind the wheel of a luxury car—unless you’re shopping for coverage on the Jerry app, that is.
