How much does a custom license plate cost in Florida?
The kids on my son’s soccer team call me the “Super Soccer Mom” and I’d love to put the nickname on my license plate! What are the costs of a custom license plate in Florida?

You’ll need to pay an extra $15 per year to put a set of custom plates on your car. To get them, you must make an in-person order at an office of the Florida Department of Highway and Motor Vehicles.
Here’s what to do:
- Enter your desired plate text into the online Personalized License Plate Inquiry tool to make sure it’s not already taken.
- Complete an Application for Personalized License Plate (form 83043).
- Make an appointment at your local FLHSMV office and bring the completed form.
- Pay the fees and pick up your plates.
It costs $27.60-$45.60 per year to register a car for private use, plus a flat $15 custom license plate fee. Have fun with your new custom ride!
