How many seconds do you stop at a stop sign?

I have my driving test coming up and I’m not quite clear about stop signs. Everything else I feel alright about. How long do I need to stop at a stop sign during my driving test?

Congratulations on getting this far! You’re one step away from saying goodbye to your learner’s permit and getting a
provisionsal license
. Contrary to popular belief, there is no set amount of time for how many seconds you stop at a stop sign. A good guideline is to stop for three seconds—but as long as you come to a complete stop and look out for other cars and pedestrians, you should be fine.
Moreover, make sure you stop at the white line or just before it. Failure to stop before or on the white line may result in an automatic fail on the test.
Some other tips to make sure you pass your driving test include:
  • Getting a good night’s rest
  • Using a car you’re familiar with
  • Not overdoing it on the caffeine
  • Relaxing and breathing
  • Meditating before your test
  • Arriving to the test early so you can calm your nerves
With any luck, you’ll drive out of the DMV with your license in hand! The next step after that is to make sure you have the right car insurance policy. If you’re not sure where to start, give the
