I’m getting ready to take my driving test, and I’m really worried I won’t be able to pass it. How many mistakes can you make on your driving test in Pennsylvania before you fail?

Pennsylvania’s
driving test is broken into three sections, each of which allows for a specific number of mistakes. To pass the Pennsylvania driving test you must have:
  • No more than three errors in the pre-drive checklist
  • No marks in the Critical Driving Error Section
  • No more than 15 errors marked for the Scoring Maneuvers section
In addition to these minor mistakes, there are some actions that will result in immediate failure. You will automatically fail your Pennsylvania driving test if you:
  • Perform an action that requires the examiner to intervene for safety reasons
  • Strike an object or a curb
  • Disobey traffic signs or signals
  • Disobey safety personnel or fail to yield to safety vehicles
  • Drive recklessly
  • Speed
  • Commit lane violations
  • Use a cell phone or other device during the test
  • Refuse instructions from your examiner
  • Cause an accident
