How many miles have self-driving cars driven?

Some of my friends are raving about the self-driving function of their electric vehicles. I’m interested in getting an EV, but I’m a little wary of self-driving because it seems a little risky. How many test miles have self-driving cars driven?

I think you’ll love owning an EV! More and more electric vehicles (aka
EVs
) are equipped with a self-driving function.
In 2021 alone, the California Department of Motor Vehicles reported that self-driving cars had driven over 4 million miles for testing purposes. While it’s understandable that many drivers have concerns about their competency, the state of California has prioritized continual autonomous-vehicle (AV) testing on its roads.
The companies leading the pack in self-driving test miles are Google-affiliate Waymo, which logged 2.3 million miles in 2021, and the Honda and GMC-backed company Cruise, which reported 876,104 miles.
If sharing the road with robots makes you a bit uneasy, it’s definitely in your best interest to drive with a good
car insurance
policy. But there’s no need to overpay!
