How many college students die from drunk driving?

I’m doing a presentation for a bunch of high school seniors that focuses mainly on drunk driving. I want to include a few statistics to scare them, specifically about college students. How many college students are killed in drunk driving accidents every year?

It’s great that you’re presenting on this topic since drunk driving is incredibly dangerous. Almost 2,000 college students ages 18 to 24 die each year from
drunk driving
and other alcohol-related accidents.
Here are some other statistics that might be helpful for your presentation:
  • Close to 19% of all drunk driving accidents involve college students.
  • If you’re under 21, the police can give you a DUI or DWI even if you’re under the legal limit because you’re not legally allowed to drink.
  • Of all teenagers aged 21 or younger who died in car accidents, 50% were passengers, not drivers. However, the driver is overall much more likely to be killed than the passenger.
While you’re learning about drunk driving, consider learning how to protect yourself and your car.
