How many BMW i8s were made?
I love my BMW i8, but I almost never see any others around. A friend recently told me they’re actually pretty rare and I’m curious if he’s right! How many BMW i8s were made?

Your friend is correct! It may be surprising to hear that the
BMW i8
is somewhat rare, especially since it was one of the top-selling plug-in sports cars from its introduction in 2014 to its retirement in 2020. But despite its popularity, BMW only produced a total of 20,465 units worldwide (16,581 coupes and 3,884 roadsters, to be specific). Even rarer still is the BMW i8 “Ultimate Sophisto” Special Edition, which was released in 2020 in a limited run of just 200 units! These models are recognizable by their unique metallic gray finish with copper and black accents, copper-colored upholstery and cabin decor, and large 20-inch wheels with copper rims.
