How is electric car power output measured?

My wife is about to purchase an electric car, and I'm hoping to be able to transfer some of my regular car knowledge to help her out with her new ride. How do they measure electric car power output?

Congratulations on your wife’s new purchase. Electric cars are different from the classic gas-powered cars, but they’re arguably simpler to understand.
Electric car
power output is measured with a straightforward equation.
Electric motors are relatively simple compared to a traditional combustion engine. Meaning you don’t have to worry about factors like cylinders, valves, turbochargers, and displacement when calculating the vehicle’s output.
The output of an electric motor is measured in kilowatts. However, the public is accustomed to horsepower as their unit of measurement. To account for this, electric car automakers have created a simple equation to help convert the measurement. Here’s the equation: hp=kW x 1.369; therefore, a 100kW motor would produce 136 horsepower.
