How far should you park from a stop sign?

I live in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. I only moved about a week ago from Indy and I had no idea that parking was going to be a nightmare. There’s always an open spot right next to a stop sign, but I wasn’t sure how far away from it I have to park. By law, what’s the distance I need to park away from a stop sign?

Chicago, and in particular Lincoln Park, have nightmarish parking conditions, especially on weekends. But to avoid getting a ticket, you should always park at least 30 feet from a stop sign.
In Chicago, parking too close to a stop sign can result in a $60 fine for the first violation and $120 for each additional violation. As an alternative, you may want to find a paid parking spot or a parking garage. While this might seem expensive, it’s cheaper than racking up a lot of fines, and you have the peace of mind of knowing you always have a spot to come home to.
If you haven’t done so already, you need to switch your car insurance over to an Illinois policy. Every state has different car insurance requirements and pricing, so the best place to start is with the
