How do you reset the brake light on a BMW X5?

I’ve been fixing up a BMW that my grandmother hasn’t regularly driven in years, and I just finished replacing the brakes. I know I did it correctly, but the brake light warning hasn’t disappeared yet. How can I reset the brake light on a BMW X5?

It’s nice of you to take the time and replace the brakes on your grandmother’s
BMW X5
!
The brake light is designed to reset automatically, but occasionally you do need to reset the service light manually. Keep in mind that the warning can only be reset if both the brakes and brake wear sensors have been replaced.
To reset the brake light on a BMW X5, you should:
  1. Turn the ignition on but do not start the engine.
  2. Hold down the odometer or trip reset button until the service menu appears. The button is typically on the left side of the instrument cluster, and the service menu should appear after holding the button for five to ten seconds.
  3. Use the reset button or, depending on the model, the controls on the turn signal lever to scroll through the settings until you find the brake warnings.
  4. Hold the reset button or BC button on the end of the turn signal lever until you see a prompt asking you if you’d like to reset the warning.
  5. Press the reset or BC button until the display shows it is resetting and confirm reset if prompted.
Finally, even though the vehicle isn’t driven regularly, it’s important to maintain an active
