If you have a 2011-2020 Durango, you’ll need to open the gas tank with the fuel door release button. This button is located on the upper left corner of the driver’s side door pocket. Once you’ve pressed the button, you’ll be able to open the fuel tank.
2021 and 2022 Durango fuel tanks, on the other hand, open a little differently. Simply turn off the car, put it in Park, and unlock the doors. Next, get out of the vehicle and locate the fuel tank door on the left side of the vehicle. To open it, push and release the center-rear edge of the fuel door. The tank will pop open, allowing you to refuel.
If the fuel door doesn’t open after you’ve tried the steps above, you may need to resort to the emergency fuel cap release button. Located on the left side of the trunk, this button will open the fuel tank when pressed. While you’ll likely never need to use it, knowing it’s there may reduce some fueling-related anxieties!
