- Sign the original title: You’ll need to turn in the original title to the DMV along with your signature, the date, and a note that it’s being junked.
- Submit an Application to Junk Title: The application is short and only requires basic information like your name, address, and car’s make, model, and vehicle identification number.
- Return your license plates: In Kentucky, you’ll need to remove your license plates from your car and submit them to the DMV before you junk it.
- Pay existing property tax: If you owe any property tax on the car, you’ll need to pay it to the DMV before they allow you to junk the vehicle.
- Pay the processing fee: Every car owner is required to pay a $1 processing fee to have their car junked.
- Find a buyer: Each junkyard will make a unique offer for your junk car, so compare a few offers before you settle on a buyer.
- Call a towing company: Call a tow truck and have them take your car to the junkyard.
