How do you check your car's crash history?

I just bought a used car and want to see the crash history. How do I do it?

Answer
Congrats on your purchase! You can find out about your used car’s crash history by consulting your dealership or by ordering a vehicle history report from a service like CARFAX.
If you bought the used car from a dealership, they may be able to provide you with a report.
If not, you can look up your car on CARFAX using the vehicle identification number (VIN) or license plate number. The vehicle history report will give you information about your car’s:
  • Accident history
  • Sale and lease history
  • Recalls
  • Odometer reading
  • Repair history
