How do I transfer a car insurance policy?

My mom is selling her 2013 Nissan Altima. She's going to be buying another car, but she isn't sure how to transfer her insurance. How would I transfer her policy?

“Car insurance can be tricky to navigate, so helping your mother transfer her policy is nice gesture. Since she has
car insurance
, it will normally extend coverage to the new vehicle for *14to 30** days without listing the new car on the policy.
That said, transferring her insurance beforehand can make both your lives easier. To do so, you will need the new car’s VIN (vehicle identification number). With the VIN, you can call her insurance company to add the vehicle or you may be able to do so online. If she needs to change the coverage on her new car, you’ll also need to provide them with the type of coverage she requires. If she’s financing the new car, she needs to have full coverage auto insurance.
Remove the Altima from insurance once she sells it and
transfers ownership
to the buyer. As insurance rates vary depending on the type of vehicle you drive, your mom’s insurance could increase or decrease. If her insurance increases, she should shop around by requesting quotes from different companies to see what rates are available.
You can do this online or with an app like
