How do I reset the “change engine oil soon” light?

I drive a 2007 GMC Yukon and just got my oil changed the other day, but the reminder light on the dashboard is still on—how do I reset the “change engine oil soon” light?

Good question—if your mechanic forgot to reset the light or it just won’t shut off for some reason, you can reset the “change engine oil soon” light yourself by following these steps:
  • Insert your key into the ignition and turn it to the accessory power position
  • Press and hold down the Enter button on your Driver Information Center (DIC) for one second
  • Your DIC display should show a reset acknowledgement message
  • Turn the key to the off position
  • Start the vehicle once more and verify whether the light has shut off
Depending on the make and model of your vehicle, this process can vary slightly—for an exact guide, consult your owner’s manual.
Hope this helps!
