How do I reprogram a Honda CR-V key fob?
How do I reprogram a Honda key remote? My fob isn’t working, so I assumed I needed to replace my battery. I changed the battery, and the fob still isn’t working. I called my brother for advice, and he said I should try to reprogram the fob.

Your brother is correct. Sometimes, the vehicle can forget the connection with the fob, so you’ll need to reprogram it.
- Get in the car on the driver’s side.
- Close all the doors to your vehicle, but don’t lock them.
- Insert the key in the ignition.
- Turn the key to the On position, but don’t start the car.
- Press the Lock button on the fob.
- Turn off the ignition.
- Repeat steps 4 to 6 for two more cycles. You will do a total of three rounds. To program the fob correctly, you need to go through each cycle within five seconds of the previous round.
- Turn the ignition to On once more. Press the Lock button again. This time you should hear a locking sound. The sound indicates the remote is in programming mode.
- To finish the programming sequence, turn off the ignition and take out the key.
- Test the fob.
If you are unsuccessful in programming the fob, try these steps again. Alternatively, you can visit a dealership to have an expert help you.
