How do I remove a BMW key battery?

I recently dropped my key fob in a puddle, and immediately after, it stopped working. I’m hoping I won’t have to buy a whole new fob, but if it doesn’t start working again soon, I’ll have no choice. I figure if I take the battery out and let it dry for a while, it might work again. How can I remove the battery from my BMW key fob?

I’m sorry to hear that your key fob isn’t working, but you may be right about removing the battery and allowing it to dry. To remove a BMW key battery, just follow these simple steps:
  1. Take out the physical key by pressing the tab on your key fob.
  2. Pry open your battery cover using the key or a flathead screwdriver.
  3. Carefully lift your battery out of its housing. Allow it to remain open and dry for a few hours.
  4. Return your battery to the proper place, close up the fob, and test it.
Hopefully, temporarily removing the battery and opening up the fob to dry fixed the issue. If it was unsuccessful, you should call your dealership to find out about getting a replacement key.
