How do I move a car with a broken axle?

Is it possible to move a car with a broken axle? My axle broke while I was driving. I managed to stop my car on the side of the road, but now my car won’t move. Why is that?

What a scary experience—I hope you are alright!
Moving a car with a broken axle is tricky, but you still have options.
While you can attempt to push your car, it is safer to call a tow truck for assistance. The reason why your vehicle is not moving is that when an axle is damaged while you are driving, more likely than not, one of your wheels will lose power.
Did you experience your vehicle pulling in one direction? If so and you were unable to readjust the direction your vehicle was moving in, that’s probably what happened—a wheel was no longer functioning.
