Oh, no—nobody wants to endure a steamy commute! Fortunately, recharging the AC in your
Honda Civic
is simple. You should be cruising cool soon.
To recharge a 2006 Honda Civic’s AC, you’ll need an AC recharge kit with a pressure gauge, which can be purchased at most auto shops. Once you have the recharge kit, you should:
  1. Open the hood and locate the AC low-pressure service port on the aluminum pipe exiting the condenser. The port is typically on the passenger side and should have a cap labeled with an L.
  2. Fit the recharging kit onto the port but do not turn the valve.
  3. Start the engine, roll down all the windows, and run the air conditioner on its lowest setting.
  4. Let the engine warm to its standard operating temperature, and let the AC get as cold as possible.
  5. Confirm the pressure is low by reading the gauge, which should have the recommended pressure labeled, typically 25 to 35 psi. If you discover the pressure is normal, stop and visit a mechanic.
  6. Open the valve of the recharging canister and close it once you reach the recommended pressure.
  7. Wait one minute. Then, add refrigerant as needed, letting one minute pass between spurts.
  8. Remove the recharging kit and allow the air conditioner to run for about 10 minutes.
