How do I listen to music on my iPhone through my car stereo?
I just bought a new Toyota RAV4, but I’ve only owned older model cars. I know I can use my iPhone to listen to music, but how do I do it?

Congrats on the new car! While the
RAV4
is a great vehicle for style, fuel economy, and features, you inadvertently also bought a car that has Apple CarPlay, which makes listening to music from your iPhone super easy!To start, set up Apple CarPlay by following these steps:
- Plug your iPhone into the stereo via the USB port.
- If this doesn’t work, you have to connect with Bluetooth, as some cars only allow wireless Apple CarPlay connections.
- To connect wirelessly, hold the voice command button on your steering wheel for about 10 seconds.
- Then, go to Settings > General > Apple CarPlay and select your vehicle.
Now that you have Apple CarPlay set up on your vehicle, the rest is easy. To customize what apps appear on your RAV4’s touch screen, go into the CarPlay app and drag the apps to the location of your choice.
Alternatively, you can listen to music through your Bluetooth system:
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth on your iPhone.
- Turn your vehicle’s stereo/Bluetooth system to discovery mode (although this may happen on its own).
- Tap the “My Car” button on your iPhone to connect.
Any of these options should allow you to listen to music on your iPhone or any apps you may have.
