How do I change the transmission fluid in a Honda Ridgeline?

It’s been a while since I’ve had the transmission fluid in my 2010 Honda Ridgeline RTL changed. It seems fairly simple, so I’d like to try it at home. What are the steps to change the transmission fluid in a Honda Ridgeline?

Great question! You should change the transmission fluid in your
Honda Ridgeline
every 50,000 to 75,000 miles, depending on how often you drive your truck. Here’s how you can change your transmission fluid:
  1. Park your truck on a flat surface and
    open the hood
    .
  2. Go under the truck and search for the drain plug at the bottom of the transmission pan.
  3. Loosen the drain plug using a ½ inch socket wrench and allow the old transmission fluid to flow into a drip pan.
  4. Once all the fluid has drained, use the socket wrench to reattach the drain plug.
  5. Remove the full drip pan, then remove the dipstick from the top of the transmission.
  6. Insert the skinny end of a longneck funnel into the dipstick hole.
  7. Pour 3 quarts of Honda Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF-Z1) into the funnel. Wait for it to drain into the transmission before pulling it out.
  8. Hold down the brake pedal and start the engine. Shift through each gear twice, then back into Park.
  9. Replace and remove the dipstick while the engine is on to ensure the fluid level is at the proper level indicated on the stick.
Just like that, you’ve changed the automatic transmission fluid in your Honda Ridgeline!
