How can I learn Spanish while driving?
My fiance’s family is from Mexico and we’re planning to visit them next summer before the wedding. I really want them to like me! I don’t speak Spanish at all, but I’d love to know at least a few phrases before our trip. I spend a lot of time in my car, and I was wondering—is there a way I can learn Spanish while I’m driving?

The best way to learn Spanish is through a combination of active and passive learning, so you may need to supplement with traditional lessons when you’re out of the car.
Here are a few of the most popular apps you can use to passively learn Spanish while you’re driving:
- Rosetta Stone: Rosetta Stone is an industry leader for a reason. You can listen to their audio companion lessons in the car to reinforce their active-learning lessons.
- Duolingo: Duolingo is quickly gaining popularity for its intuitive language lessons. Follow along with their 10- to 15-minute lessons in the car.
- Fastlingo: Record yourself following along with a lesson when you’re not driving. When you’re in the car, play back your own voice for more practice.
- Pimsleur: This app has 30-minute lessons that you can listen to while you drive. It’s great for learning conversational Spanish, but be aware that not all features are free.
- Mondly: This app has a combination of active and passive lessons. Just pick the ones that work best while you’re in the car, then switch to a more hands-on feature in your non-driving time.
- FluentU: Download fun lessons based on pop culture, like music, movies, news, and more. Then, listen to them while you’re driving around town.
