How can I fix a broken car cigarette lighter?

The cigarette lighter in my Honda doesn’t seem to be working. I’ve tried plugging in chargers with no luck and I’m not sure what’s wrong with it. How do I fix my car’s broken cigarette lighter?

Having a working cigarette lighter is an essential tool in anyone’s car, especially if you have a phone that’s prone to dying!
In most situations, when these stop working, it’s usually an issue with your fuse, which is a relatively easy fix.
The best way to deal with a broken fuse is simply to replace it. Whatever you may be plugging into the socket is likely drawing more power than the socket can handle, which can blow out the fuse.
Before changing your fuse, clean any dirt and debris from the socket. Any contaminants in the socket can also be a cause for why your lighter isn’t working properly. If it’s still not working, follow these steps to change the fuse:
  • Reference your owner’s manual for the location of the cigarette lighter’s fuse. There should be a tool in the fuse box to help remove the burnt-out fuse.
  • Replace with the new fuse.
  • Start your car and plug in your charger.
Ideally, this will fix your broken lighter! If it doesn’t, consider taking your car to a mechanic to diagnose the problem, as it may be a wiring issue.
While you’re working on your car, consider looking at your car insurance as well. Having the right insurance protection is an important part of car maintenance and upkeep.
