How can I change the battery in a 2017 Honda Civic key fob?

How can I change the key fob battery for my 2017 Honda Civic? I got the key fob really wet. I want to see if changing the battery can get it working again, rather than getting a complete replacement since I know those can be pricey.

I’m sorry to hear that your key fob isn’t working—hopefully, a battery change is all you need! To change the battery in your 2017 Honda Civic’s key fob, just follow these instructions:
  • Purchase the correct battery type. Look online or in your Honda Civic manual to find out the type of battery your key fob needs. You should be able to purchase one at your local auto store, department store, or online.
  • Locate the knob on the back of the key fob and click it toward you to release the valet key.
  • Insert the valet key into the center slot revealed once you remove the valet key. Gently twist the valet key to pry the key fob open.
  • Remove the old battery. Since your key fob had some water damage, now might be a good time to let the open key fob dry out if necessary.
  • Insert the new battery with the lettering and the positive side facing you and press the key fob back together.
Hopefully, the battery change has got your key fob up and running again. If it hasn’t, and you need to get a key fob replacement, the
