If you want to become a driving instructor in
Florida
, you’ll need to be certified by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.You must demonstrate proper qualifications before you can obtain a license from the state.
All driving instructors must have:
- A valid Florida driver’s license and be at least 21 years old
- A license free of any suspensions or revocations for at least three years prior to their application submission
- No prior convictions of felony or misdemeanor within five years
Here’s how to get your Florida driver’s instructor license:
- Submit a completed application for an instructor
- Pay the $25 fee
- Have your fingerprints taken using LiveScan
- Submit a Certificate of Completion showing you passed a 32-hour Driving Instructor Training Course (DITC) or 8-hour DITC refresher course
You can mail your completed application and supporting documents with the fee to:

All driving instructor licenses are valid for one year and the renewal application must be received a minimum of 45 days before expiry.
