Does USAA renters insurance cover flooding?
This week a terrible storm passed through our neighborhood. We were shocked when the little stream that runs near a local park flooded out the first floor of our rental house. Unfortunately, it looks like we’ve lost most of our living room furniture. Does USAA renters insurance cover flood damage?

Oh no! Even small streams that look innocuous can become raging rivers in a storm. Thankfully, you’re safe—and it’s also fortunate you have USAA renters insurance because you’re covered against flooding damage.
Most renters (or homeowners) insurance policies do not cover naturally occurring floods or storm surges. However, USAA policies are underwritten by the USAA General Indemnity Company in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Take photographs of the damage before submitting your claim to USAA and look for receipts for your personal possessions. After you meet your deductible, USAA will cut you a check for the Replacement Cost Value (RCV) of your items.
