At this time, Ohio
does not offer an electric car rebate. But all hope is not lost if you’re looking for electric car incentives in Ohio
. Firstly, you can still take advantage of the federal EV tax credit provided by the US government to purchase new electric vehicles. Unfortunately, the Ohio market has not been prioritized by manufacturers for distribution, often leaving the state with limited supplies of electric cars.
In 2019 a bill was introduced to the Ohio Senate to help Ohioans with the costs of buying electric cars. The bill proposed:
$500 sales tax credit at the time of sale when purchasing a new EV
$1000 sales tax credit for fleet vehicles
The bill still hasn’t passed, but it could be a great way to help lower the initial cost of buying an electric vehicle, especially for lower and middle-income earners.
Electric and hybrid car owners in Ohio are also subject to a significant EV tax of $200/year. If the tax credit bill passes, it may help make the EV tax more reasonable for those intending to switch to an electric car.
