Does Geico offer home insurance in Florida?

I’ve recently started a remote job and am relocating from Syracuse, New York, to Daytona Beach, Florida. I had renters insurance with GEICO, but since I purchased a house, I’ll need homeowners insurance. Can I get it through GEICO in Florida?

Yes, you can swap your
renters insurance
with GEICO for homeowners insurance in Florida.
But while you may be able to take in the ocean views during your workday, relocating to Florida has some drawbacks that will affect your premium.
Here are some of the heavy hitters that can hike up your insurance costs:
  • Hurricanes
  • Tropical storms
  • Flooding
Standard homeowners insurance does not cover
external flooding
and storm surge damage.
Hurricane
damage will likely be covered, but there may be limits. In Florida, homeowner policies typically have limits on the amount you can recoup and/or have higher deductibles you have to meet before the insurer pays out.
The obvious solution is to purchase insurance that will protect you against these issues—
flood insurance
and
comprehensive car insurance
—but all these additional coverages come at an extra cost.
With these points in mind, you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to afford your house in Florida. Whether you’re shopping for
car
, home, or renters insurance, the
Jerry
insurance app will help you find the best coverage at the best rates to avoid overpaying.
