Does changing your own oil void the warranty on a Subaru?
I bought a Subaru Impreza last year, and I’d like to do my own oil changes rather than taking it to a mechanic. Will changing my oil void the factory warranty?

Great question! Doing your own oil changes is an excellent way to
save money on car expenses
. Lucky for you, changing your own oil will not void the warranty on your Subaru. However, if you do your own oil changes, keep all receipts from purchasing oil and oil filters and keep a record of when oil changes were done (date and mileage). That way, you can maintain the proper mileage between oil changes.
Here’s the maintenance that should be performed on your Subaru every six months or 6,000 miles:
- Replace engine oil and filter
- Inspect tires and adjust tire pressures (including the spare tire)
- Inspect and adjust all fluid levels
- Inspect operation of all lights, wipers, and washers
- Inspect and adjust drive belt tension
- Service battery
- Inspect axle boot condition
- Lubricate all latches, hinges, and locks
- Inspect all steering and suspension components
- Inspect underbody for damage
- Road test vehicle
