Do opossums chew through electrical wires in cars?

I just discovered a family of opossums living in the crawlspace in my garage. Should I be worried about them possibly finding their way into my car and chewing through the electrical wiring?

Not only can a
rodent infestation
be a huge headache for the car-owner, it can also be deadly to the animals involved.
Rodents
including mice, rats, squirrels, and yes, even opossums, can find their way into the engine bay of your car looking for somewhere warm to hide.
They might even create a nest of debris or chew through electrical wires to get comfortable, so you must deal with the infestation as soon as you notice a problem. A few things you can do to manage the issue:
  • Don’t leave food in or around your car, or leave it parked near places that attract rodents such as dumpsters or garbage cans. Keep your car parked in a garage when possible.
  • If they are in your garage itself, have animal control or another professional remove the rodents from your garage. Keep the space clean and sealed off.
  • Regularly check the engine compartment for pests or signs of pests.
