Do monster truck drivers have to stand up while driving?
My son and I recently went to see a monster truck rally and we had a blast! But my son asked how the driver doesn’t get bounced around in his seat. So I told him they stand up while they’re driving. Someone overheard me and said that wasn’t true. So who’s right? Do monster truck drivers stand up while driving?

Personally, I wouldn’t be shocked if it were true that monster
truck
drivers stand up while driving in order to deal with all that bouncing around. But for safety reasons, monster truck drivers do not stand while driving. This is partially because it’s difficult to use a safety harness effectively while standing. But more critically, it’s because of how the truck’s gas pedal is set up. There’s a hook meant to go over the driver’s toe so they can pull it back if the throttle jams and the pedal doesn’t come back to position automatically.
All of the rules of monster truck driving state that drivers must be seated at all times. So we can reasonably assume that no, drivers are always seated in their monster trucks while driving them. Hopefully the seat is at least spring-mounted.
For non-monster truck drivers, there’s no question about sitting while driving. But safety is just as important, and that includes good truck insurance
