Can you listen to headphones while driving?

Would I get into trouble if I wore my headphones while driving? I love to listen to music while I’m driving, but my kids hate the music that I like. If I could listen to music over my headphones instead, everyone would be happy.

Different states have different laws about listening to headphones while driving. While driving with headphones is illegal in some states, others have a one-ear rule in place. In states with this law, you can listen to headphones while you’re driving as long as one ear is free. Before you try wearing headphones while you drive, make sure to check your state laws.
Even if wearing headphones while driving is legal in your state, however, it’s still dangerous. Having headphones in decreases your awareness of your own vehicle and anything going on outside of it. You’re much less likely to hear sirens or
strange noises from your car
that could indicate you need to pull over. With that in mind, it’s best to leave the headphones at home.
