That’s a valid concern—but as it currently stands, electric cars cannot charge while driving.
Most drivers of electric cars suffer from range anxiety; this comes from the disparity of charging stations, especially when traveling out of state.
Electric car
manufacturers are constantly creating new concepts to solve this issue, and inductive charging is a solution we may see in the future.
With inductive charging, motorists can charge their electric vehicles while driving. In short, the electric car will have an internal charging plate that will induce current right into the vehicle. The alternating current would then be fed directly into the battery, giving the car additional range.
This future technology is not just a product of someone’s imagination. It has been demonstrated in research prototypes, proving the idea quite attainable. However, there is still a lot of work to be done before this technology can be commercialized.
The industry’s current focus is on stationary use for wireless charging. Fixed charging would allow the consumer to recharge without a cable—a natural first step toward inductive charging.
Electric car owners would be free from range anxiety because of the convenience of charging while driving. Having excellent car insurance coverage would also add to that feeling of security.
