Can a 1-month-old baby travel by car?

I want to visit my parents in New York to let them see their brand-new grandchild for the first time. It’s about a six-hour drive. My baby is only about four weeks old, so I have concerns about traveling. Is it safe for a 1-month-old baby to travel in a car?

Congratulations on parenthood! If you want to take your 1-month-old to visit your grandparents, you shouldn’t have any issues as long as you make the necessary arrangements and break the trip up into smaller sections.
Try these tips for bringing a 1-month-old on a long car ride:
  • Take shorter practice trips a couple of times before you go on the longer
    road trip
    .
  • Keep a watchful eye on the temperature in your car so your baby stays comfortable. Babies often sleep better when the temperature is a little cooler, but don’t let them get too cold.
  • Dress your 1-month-old in loose clothing or pajamas so they’re comfortable.
  • Try to plan your trip so you’re driving when your child would normally be asleep.
  • Break up the trip by stopping at least every 3 hours.
  • Make a playlist of familiar songs to help keep your baby content during the drive.
If you haven’t done so already, you might also want to review your car insurance policy and add towing and labor coverage or roadside assistance. Use the
