Are there Ford Explorer Sport recalls?
My uncle is passing down his Ford Explorer Sport to me, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s left a few issues unresolved throughout the years. So, I’m doing a little research before driving it. Can you tell me about any Ford Explorer Sport recalls?

A hand-me-down car is a great gift—but not necessarily if it comes with a few unexpected surprises. Luckily, you shouldn’t have much to worry about as far as recalls are concerned: There were only three Ford Explorer Sport recalls during its limited production run from 2001 to 2003.
Here are the recalls to look out for as well as the Ford Explorer Sport models they affected:
- Malfunctioning hood striker could result in the hood flying up during operation: Affected many Ford SUVs manufactured around the year 2000.
- Malfunctioning liftgate glass strut or hinges could allow the glass to fall and break: Affected all Ford Explorer Sport models.
- Overheating courtesy lights: Affected many Ford SUVs built during the time of the Explorer Sport’s production.
The affected models for these recalls were all fairly vague at the time, so you may want to use a VIN lookup to check car recalls for your specific Ford Explorer Sport. This will tell you if your model was affected by any of these recalls and may even be able to tell you if they’ve been resolved. Contact your local Ford dealership if you have any doubts or concerns.
