What issues are causing the Tesla window recall?

InsideEVs states that the Tesla window recall is happening due to the listed models’ window sensors being unable to detect obstructions. This means that if a driver or passenger isn’t paying attention, the window could roll up, catching their arm, finger, or other body parts between the frame and the window pane.
It’s not just Tesla that’s concerned about the Tesla window recall, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (
NHTSA
) as well. The agency has stated that the issues causing the Tesla window recall violate safety guidelines for power-operated windows.

This isn’t the first time that Tesla has been on the NHTSA’s bad side

TechCrunch
reported back in June that data from the NHTSA showed that Tesla has been the leader in terms of driver-assisted crashes, but the data is also a little bit skewed. For starters, Tesla sells more EVs than any other company—period. They’ve also had driver-assist features for longer than most other companies.
This means that, because Tesla models make up a larger percentage of driver-assist-capable vehicles on the road, they also represent more of the crashes taking place. This Tesla window recall isn’t a testament to Teslas being poorly built or unsafe, but to their reliance on cutting-edge, experimental technology that poses a higher likelihood of glitching out.
