Recall Alert: Over 100,000 Toyota Tundras Have a Headlight Issue

Toyota
recently announced it is recalling more than 158,000 Tundra pickup trucks
. The automaker announced that the affected models needed to be recalled due to faulty wiring in the headlights. Which model years are included in the recall and what else do you need to know?

According to
Kelley Blue Book
, there were 158,489 trucks with the faulty wiring, all from 2018 to 2021. Only pickup trucks with halogen headlights are included in the recall. The trucks were all manufactured between June 6, 2017 and March 24, 2021, Toyota said.
Faulty wiring in the trucks’ headlights causes the high- and low-beam halogen bulbs to illuminate incorrectly, which can lead to overheating and light failure if they are left on for an extended period. In some cases, the headlight assembly can catch fire.

Toyota provided documentation to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reporting that the automaker was aware of 18 incidents of 47 warranty claims about headlight failures in the affected Toyota Tundras.
Luckily, only nine of those affected trucks experienced fires caused by the faulty wiring in the headlights.
What to do if your truck is part of the recall
If you own a Toyota Tundra from 2018-2021, with halogen headlights, your vehicle might be affected. Toyota dealerships will replace the trucks’ faulty wiring and any damaged part of the headlight assembly at no cost to vehicle owners.
Truck owners
will also receive a recall notice in the mail from Toyota, starting in October. Or, consumers can contact their local Toyota dealership directly to make a service appointment.
