Toyota
Tundra reveals it’s much different than its outdated predecessor.
The Toyota Tundra really did need an upgrade, and the 2022 version is the first Tundra full redesign since the 2007 model year.
While we don’t know exactly what’s under the hood just yet (except that Toyota has promised a new engine), we can see some features of the 2022 Toyota Tundra based on the photo that was released.

What are the new features on the 2022 Toyota Tundra?

Until now, the Toyota Tundra has basically remained unchanged since its debut in 2007. The vehicle was refreshed for the 2014 model year, but it still struggled against rivals such as the
Ford F-150
, the Ram 1500 and the Chevy Silverado 1500.
While the new Toyota Tundra probably still won’t outsell any of those competitors, the 2022 version does have many improvements that should make it more attractive than before.
The photo released of the 2022 Toyota Tundra shows a white truck with black accents. There’s also a large grille with a big Toyota badge, and multiple LED light bars.
The three amber running lights integrated into the grille are legally required on vehicles that are more than 80-inches wide, according to
Car and Driver
.
Toward the bottom, there’s a hidden embossed Tundra stamp and sensors for what are most likely to be a host of collision-avoidance features, according to
Autotrader
.
Based on the image, the new Toyota Tundra could be available with a hybrid powertrain.

More exterior and interior features of the 2022 Toyota Tundra

The photo also indicates that the 2022 Toyota Tundra’s side profile has a black-finished A-pillar, giving the passenger compartment a helmet style.
The fenders have LED headlights and big flares that repeat the shredded carbon fiber-style texture.
In addition, there are rock rails underneath the crew cab doors to protect the sheet metal for off-roading.
Car and Driver noted that an interior image of the new Toyota Tundra shows a large center mounted touchscreen, which will help it compete against the Ford F-150 and the Ram 1500. The larger center-mounted touchscreen has Apple CarPlay.

As we mentioned, we don’t know what’s under the hood yet, but since Toyota has promised a new engine, it may be a version of the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 in the new Land Cruiser SUV, a vehicle that won’t be sold in the U.S.
The photo also doesn’t show the truck’s rear, but there are fender flares, and according to Autotrader, the tailgate will most likely have embossed logos that may be trim level specific.
It’s also not yet known how much the 2022 Toyota Tundra will cost, but it will most likely be more expensive than the outgoing model, which started at $35,620.
Another feature likely to change from the vehicle’s predecessor is the rear suspension, which previously utilized a leaf-spring setup, according to Car and Driver. The new generation of the vehicle could ride on more refined coil springs, air springs or maybe an independent rear suspension.
Toyota says that more details on the 2022 Tundra are coming soon.
