, can make your life miserable. It can also cost you a lot of money in the long run.
While many people prefer to buy American, not all American-made cars are that reliable. With that in mind, it's important to know which brands you should be wary of. In a surprise twist, it appears that Lincoln is at the top of that list.
Why was Lincoln at the bottom of the list?
Lincoln is Ford’s luxury brand and has sustained a lot of success in the past. That seems to be changing, however, as
, Ford comes in 18th place, while Lincoln comes in 28th out of 28 ranked brands. Given that both companies share the same motors, parts, and materials, this seems rather unusual.
The vehicle that seems to have brought Lincoln down was the Aviator. The 2022 has a reliability score of one out of five, and the problem areas seem to revolve around the transmission, body frame and hardware, power equipment, and in-car electronics.
Other Lincoln vehicles don't fare much better, which helped contribute to Lincoln being ranked the least reliable brand in America.
Tesla is the second least reliable American car brand
The driving range on Tesla vehicles is phenomenal, the technology is opening new doors that people thought would be closed for years to come, and the nice clean looks are very appealing for many drivers.
But while Tesla may be the most well-known EV automaker in America, it's not without a few issues, which is why Consumer Reports ranked it as the second least reliable brand in America.
From unexplained fires to people being charged for subscriptions they didn't sign up for, it's clear there are a few trouble spots that still need to be worked out.
The worst vehicle, according to Consumer Reports, was the Model X. This was mainly due to the falcon doors that take forever to open, as well as the fact that the ride is stiff, and some consider it overpriced for what's offered.
This wasn't the only reason the Model X received such a poor score. The drive system, climate system, suspension, paint/trim, body integrity, and body hardware all contributed to earning the Model X a reliability score of one out of five.
Jeep was Auto Blog's third-least reliable American car brand

Jeep managed to come out better than Tesla, but it was only by one point. The maker of the beloved Wrangler couldn't quite manage to earn a higher score thanks to poor ratings on the Cherokee, Wrangler, and Gladiator.
In the end, it was the Gladiator that brought the score down. Its less than refined handling, loud wind noise, and low gas mileage didn't do it any favors. The transmission, paint/trim, and suspension helped the Gladiator earn a reliability score of two out of five.
When searching for reliable brands, it's important to remember that just because the brand received a low score overall, that doesn't mean each vehicle wearing the brand badge is unreliable. For example, the Grand Cherokee consistently gets high-ranking scores, and the Tesla Model 3 is often hailed as what an EV should be.
With that in mind, it's crucial to research the vehicle you want as well as the brand. After all, you don't want to miss out on a good vehicle because the brand itself is less than stellar.
