New Home of Iconic ’67 Chevy Impala From ‘Supernatural’ Might Surprise Fans

Though it was never the CW’s most popular show, Supernatural had a wide, committed fanbase that simply refused to let it end. Because of that, the show ran for 15 seasons, becoming the longest-running sci fi/fantasy television series ever to air in the U.S. Though fans and actors alike were sad to see it go, one star managed to walk away with quite the memento.
Jensen Ackles, who starred as “Dean Winchester,” got to take the show’s famous car, a 1967 Chevy Impala, home with him to Texas, according to
Screen Rant
.
‘Supernatural’ fans can recognize the ‘67 Impala from the show just about anywhere.

The Impala was more character than car

Supernatural followed two brothers, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester, across the country as they worked to rid their world of monsters.
As they drove from state to state, their Chevy Impala, nicknamed “Baby” by Dean, was there through it all, no matter how many times it was crashed or smashed.
The car was featured in the show for each of its 15 seasons. There were many moments that paid homage to the car’s history on the show, from the various driving montages showing off the Impala’s choice exterior, to a whole episode shot solely from its interior.
The car became an integral part of the show, beloved by both fans and the cast and crew. As he realized the show would soon come to a close, Jensen Ackles could think of no better way to remember his 15 years on the show than to take Baby with him.

After two years of discussions, Ackles finally managed to fit it into his season 14 contract, just one season the final. Once filming for Supernatural wrapped, he drove it off the lot and shipped it to his home in Austin, Texas.
The car itself is a black 1967 Chevy Impala. Though Ackles took home the main car used in the show, there were a total of seven cars used in filming according to
TireBuyer
.
On the show, the car’s specs are described as being similar to those of a ’67 Chevy Impala Sport Sedan. This means it would’ve been equipped with a 327 V8 Turbo-Fire engine with 275 horsepower.
However, in reality, TireBuyer claims the show’s flagship car ran on a 502-cubic-inch big-block V8. Nevertheless, the specs on the show’s Impala mean that this car can really move for being a 4-door sedan. Its 0-100 mph time is an impressive 10.1 seconds.

Jensen may have been the first, but he wasn’t the only one to take an Impala from the set. According to
Showbiz Cheat Sheet
, his co-star, Jared Padalecki, also had the privilege of taking one of the Impalas home with him.
Padalecki stated that, though Supernatural’s Dean was the gearhead, he has more of an interest in cars than his co-star. He even has his own collection of classic cars. Even so, he bears no ill-will toward Ackles for getting the main car—he was simply honored to get his own.
