In the world of
luxury cars
, drivers are always looking for something bigger, flashier, and most importantly, faster. Each of the cars listed here would feel right at home in a James Bond movie, but only one vehicle gets to claim the title of the fastest car in the world.
According to
MotorTrend,
these are the five fastest cars in the world right now. These feats of engineering showcase unbelievable horsepower and speeds that would win on the race track.
We’re just wondering when cars will be fast enough to travel through the space-time-continuum.

In 5th place

Produced by Swedish manufacturer Koenigsegg from 2011 to 2018, the Agera RS was considered the peak hypercar or supercar for years. The Agera RS is powered by a twin-turbo V-8 that produces 1,160 horsepower.
In 2017, the Koenigsegg became the talk of the automotive world when it set records by achieving a speed of 277.9 miles per hour. While this is faster than most people will ever drive, there are cars on this list that have surpassed this record.

A worldwide winner among controversy

SSC North America has faced controversy in the past for inaccurate top speed claims, but there is no denying that the SSC Tuatara is still a record-setter. With a 5.9-liter V-8 and 1,750 horsepower, the Tuatara achieved a speed record of 282.9 mph earlier in 2021.
This is impressive on its own, but it is believed by some that the SSC Tuatara could get well over 300 mph. While there is no evidence of this happening yet, SSC claims its top speed is 331.15 mph.

Which brand consistently delivers some of the fastest cars?

Bugatti has always been in the conversation of the fastest cars in the world, and with the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, they hit a major milestone. That "300+" in the name refers to the maximum speed that it can achieve. At the very least, it can achieve a whopping 300 miles per hour, and it is not known what its max speed is.
For interested buyers, Bugatti is planning to release a version for consumers with a capped maximum speed. All that it will cost buyers is a modest $3.9 million.
Hennessey Performance Engineering focuses on modifying cars from Ferrari, McLaren, and more, but they also produce some of their own. The most recent of these, and the most powerful, is the 2021 Hennessey Venom F5.
Powered by a 6.6-liter V-8, this absolute beast of a sports car can hit a speed of 311 mph. It is named after the F5 tornado, which can achieve similar speeds, and it costs $1.8 million.

The fastest car in the world

Koenigsegg previously made an appearance as the fifth-ranked car on this list, but other manufacturers have surpassed the speeds of the Agera RS. There are also plenty of great supercars coming out right now, like the Ferrari 296 GTB, so Koenigsegg has a lot of competition. With the Jesko Absolut, though, Koenigsegg might be able to take the speed record back.
In simulations, the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut reached a top speed of 330 miles per hour. There has not been an official top speed test for the Jesko Absolut yet, but if the simulations are right, this will be the fastest car in the world.

Even supercars need car insurance

With speed limits and the speeds that more consumer-friendly cars go, it is unlikely that an average driver will break speed records. Though the average driver does share something in common with supercar drivers, car insurance. A driver can save money on car insurance with the help of comparison shopping.
