With SUVs being one of the most popular car types in the nation, it’s hard to know what’s quality and what’s
just hype
. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of some of the most highly rated SUVs for the upcoming model year. Here are the top four 3-row SUVs of 2022, as reported by
Car and Driver
.

Kia Telluride

The Kia Telluride offers a comfortable third row.
Car and Driver’s best 3-row SUV of 2022 is the Kia Telluride. Its classy exterior looks are matched inside, but those aren’t the only reason this car has an air of sophistication to it.
Kia has added many features to their lowest trims, even making the car’s smallest touch screen option 10.3 inches wide. The Telluride has been recognized by Car and Driver every model year since its release for its quality, styling, and reliability with one of their 10 Best Trucks and SUV awards.
It comes with a 3.8-liter V6 with 291 horsepower and an eight-speed
automatic transmission
, a 5,000-lb towing capacity, and a 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty. With a base price of $32,790, the Telluride gives a lot of quality for a very reasonable price.

Hyundai Palisade

Very similar to the Telluride, the Hyundai Palisade is the second-best SUV on this list. It was built using the same base platform as the Telluride, and the cars share the same V6 engine and suspension as well, making them each as smooth and powerful as the other.
However, Hyundai chose different finishes and features for the Palisade, including ventilated second-row seats and a vehicle ceiling covered in a suede-like material. Their exterior looks are also pretty different—you likely wouldn’t mistake one for the other on the street. Like the Telluride, the Palisade’s pricing is very middle-of-the-road, starting at $33,150.

Jeep Grand Cherokee L

Making our way down the list, the number three SUV is the Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Though the Grand Cherokee is an SUV in its own right, the Grand Cherokee L comes with an extra 15 inches on the wheelbase. The extra length allows room for a third row of seats and gives the Cherokee L a smooth ride quality.
The standard engine is a 3.6-liter V6 with 290 horsepower, but the optional 357-horsepower 5.7-liter V8 is the star of the show. It’s both powerful and beautiful to hear, with an impressive towing capacity of 7,200 lbs. Both the V6 and the V8 have an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The starting price for this SUV is the highest of the four on this list at $39,220.

Mazda CX-9

Finally, we have the Mazda CX-9 to round out our list of great 3-row SUVs. The CX-9 is a bit more athletic and agile than other cars in its class, making it a fun drive despite its size. Like the Telluride, the CX-9 also received Car and Driver’s 10 Best Trucks and SUV award in 2018 and 2019.
The CX-9 has a 250-horsepower 2.5-liter inline-four engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. Tech like a 10.3 inch touchscreen and Apple CarPlay comes standard. Its finishes and features give the SUV the look and feel of a luxury SUV, but its price is square in the middle, starting at $35,280.
