background
Car manufacturers are pouring tons of money into the development of
electric vehicles
these days, and Hyundai is no exception. They recently unveiled a concept car that really got people talking at the
New York Auto Show
. That car was the Genesis X Speedium Coupe.
Curious to learn more about this impressively designed concept car?
Jerry's
got the rundown on what's known about the car at this point.

A look at the Hyundai Genesis X Speedium Coupe

The Genesis X Speedium Coupe is the latest vehicle to emerge from the design team at Hyundai's Genesis luxury division.
While it hasn't actually gone into production, the polished design introduced at the New York Auto Show is definitely garnering attention and turning heads.
Named for the famed Korean Inje Speedium racetrack, the Genesis X Speedium is a two-door, four-passenger coupe. As
Road and Track
explains, it's yet another iteration of the Genesis X concept car that the company had previously introduced.
The Genesis X is a fully-electric concept line of cars known for its signature "two-line" theme. Though Hyundai hasn't given any indication as to the powertrain on these vehicles, it has clearly put a lot of effort into creating luxury EVs that are truly eye-catching in their design.

The car debuted at the New York Auto Show

The world first got a look at the Genesis X Speedium Couple at the New York Auto Show, which took place last month. Significantly, this was one of the first auto shows to resume since the Covid-19 pandemic began.
Rather than showcase the car among the crowds of vehicles at the main auto show venue, Hyundai chose to display it at its own "brand experience center" called Genesis House, just down the river from the Javits Center where the main show took place.
In conjunction with the car's debut at the show, Luc Donckerwolke, the chief creative officer of Genesis, released a statement explaining the inspiration behind the concept car.
As he put it, "This car is an open-door moment in Genesis's journey towards our future EV design. This isn't a show car—it's a look into our design processes as we explore ideas for the next wave of EVs, one that incorporates Genesis's DNA."

What's different about the Hyundai Genesis X Speedium Coupe?

So what exactly does the new Genesis X Speedium Coupe design entail? First, there's the new roof profile and rear hatch, which Road and Track says recalls the luxury Aston Martin DB2/4.
Road and Track also notes that the car has certain elements of the Series-One E-Type, various early Ferrari Berlinettas, and even the 275 GTB, due to its kamm-tail rear with integrated spoiler.
While it's unclear if or when the Genesis X Speedium Coupe might make it into actual production, the excitement around the vehicle would seem to make it likely that one of these days we could actually see it out on the street. If so, it would certainly be one of the more striking EVs around.
