For those who don’t know, Nio is a Chinese
electric vehicle
manufacturer. The company was founded in 2014, and has released several high-performance EVs.
The brand has its sights set on rivaling Tesla, and thanks to social media, it has a
loyal fanbase
stretching across the globe. Nio has even built clubhouses for it’s Chinese customers to hang out in, and the company makes a big deal out of being collaborative with them.
One example of this is Nio Day, an annual event during which the company showcases its latest EV models. Fans are not only encouraged to attend, but also to take part in the festivities—like the time a group of customers performed a song (“Say Hello to the World”) live on stage!
The most recent Nio Day was held on December 18, 2021. It was dominated by the unveiling of the Nio ET5, a mid-size electric sedan, and the announcement of an order date for the ET7, a larger sedan slated for release later in 2022.

What happened on the last Nio day?

The main talking point was the full unveiling of the ET5, Nio’s brand-new electric mid-size sedan.
With its beautiful, sweeping design, the ET5 did not disappoint. The immersive digital cockpit features AR and VR technologies, complete with glasses, which enables users (hopefully not drivers) to enjoy immersive movies and games from within the car.
The Nio ET5 also boasts the latest in autonomous driving technology. While it’s still illegal to use in many jurisdictions, the company claims its NIO Aquila Super Sensing and NIO Adam Super Computing software can safely navigate highways and urban areas without human intervention.
The luxury sedan can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds, and the standard battery boasts a range of around 340 miles. By upgrading to the 150 kWh Ultralong Range Battery, it can go 621 miles on a single charge.
The high-strength steel-aluminum hybrid body and ultra-low center, means the ET5 easily surpasses crash test requirements. It’s rollover-resistance rating of 1.7 is far above the NHTSA's five-star criteria.
The Nio ET5 is priced at 328,000 Chinese Yuan (about $52,000 U.S.) and delivery is expected to start in September 2022.
The company also picked Nio Day 2021 to announce the order date for the much-anticipated ET7.
The ET7 shares a lot of its technology with the ET5, but it is larger and quicker. It can go from 0-to-60 in just 3.8 seconds, and has an improved drag coefficient to boost speed and help preserve battery life.
Nio will start taking orders for the ET7 on March 28, 2022, and have promised more information about the mid-large electric sedan before then.

Nio’s plans for future

Unlike most other EV makers, Nio has pushed battery swapping technology alongside its charging stations. By the end of 2022, the company promises to have 1,300 Power Swap stations, 6,000 Power Chargers and 10,000 destination chargers across China.
Nio has just recently expanded beyond the domestic Chinese market into Norway (the
most EV-friendly nation in the world
), and plans on moving into Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark by year-end.
By 2025, Nio hopes its cars will be available to buy in the U.S., in addition to 25 other countries worldwide.
And further endearing the company to its fans, Nio has just announced the “Clean Parks” program. This initiative aims to protect nature reserves around the world, and establish a low-carbon energy cycle system for EV production.

When is Nio Day 2022?

At time of writing there is no confirmed date for Nio Day 2022. However, Nio Day is always held towards the end of the calendar year, so fans can expect Nio Day 2022 to happen sometime in December.
