Depending on the trim and model year, ground clearance on the Porsche Macan ranges from 6.7 to 7.8 inches.

background
The 2022 Porsche Macan has 6.9 inches of ground clearance, but earlier models boast up to 7.8 inches of clearance standard. The available air suspension kit can boost ground clearance on your Macan up to 9 inches for an off-road experience without danger of undercarriage damage.
Contrary to popular belief, not all SUVs are capable of heading off-road. Regardless of drive capabilities or wheel size, it's ground clearance that can make or break an off-road experience. The Macan sits a bit lower to the ground than others in its class, but an available air suspension package could make it your go-to off-roader as well as your daily driver.
If you’re thinking about taking your Macan off-road or you just want to know if that’s even an option,

2022 Porsche Macan ground clearance

The 2022 Porsche Macan is available in three trims, all of which offer 6.9 inches of ground clearance. However, an available adaptive air suspension system (AASS) can raise any trim up to 9.0 inches of ground clearance and is standard on the Macan GTS trim.

Porsche Macan ground clearance over the years

All Macans are part of the first generation introduced in 2015, but the model has received two facelifts that have affected ground clearance over the years. Keep in mind that your Macan’s ground clearance will depend not only on the model year and trim but also on whether your particular vehicle was optioned with the AASS. The GTS trim, which features the AASS as standard equipment was not introduced until the 2017 model year.
Here’s how the Macan’s ground clearance has changed over the years:
  • 2015-2018: 7.8-9.0 inches
  • 2019-2021: 6.7-9.0 inches

What is ground clearance—and why does it matter?

Put simply, ground clearance is the distance measured from the lowest point on your vehicle’s underbody to the road surface. When it comes to SUVs, this measure is important for two reasons:
  • It affects your vehicle's off-road performance and capabilities
  • It affects your vehicle’s stability and handling both on and off-road
Experts recommend at least 8.5 inches of ground clearance for an off-road experience with less risk of damaging your vehicle’s undercarriage, but if you go too high, your vehicle’s center of gravity will also be too high, increasing the chances for you to tip over and making for awkward handling in daily driving situations.
At just 6.7 inches, the Macan and the
Macan S
are both too short for a solid off-road experience, unless you option the AASS. With the AASS standard, the Macan GTS is a great option for off-roading regardless of what other features you may go for.

Is the Porsche Macan a good off-road vehicle?

The Porsche Macan GTS is an excellent option for off-road adventures with just its standard equipment. Without the AASS, the Macan and Macan S don’t have the necessary ground clearance to make off-roading safe and fun—but opt for the adaptive suspension, and you’ll have just as much clearance as the GTS. That means any Porsche Macan trim can be outfitted to make a perfect off-road vehicle.
What makes the Macan an even better purchase is the fact that it doesn’t always have to ride so high. The available AASS means the Macan is sporty on the street, but rugged off-road. Plus the Macan’s trio of available turbocharged engines means you’ll be just as at home mixing it up with sports sedans as you will be climbing a steep grade or carting a load of groceries. The Porsche Macan can do it all!
