The Porsche Cayenne doesn’t offer third-row seating, but for anyone looking for a spicy, luxurious ride and loads of functionality, you can’t go wrong.

background
The
2022 Porsche Cayenne
doesn’t have third-row seating, but it does have ample passenger and cargo space in the rear. With 60.3 cubic feet behind the front row and an impressive 27.2 cubic feet behind the rear seats, it’s a spacious and well-equipped family-friendly SUV.
Large and spacious three-row SUVs are all the rage for large families looking for cargo space and functionality. But for smaller families who don’t want a minivan or need the extra room, two-row SUVs are just as good. Although the Cayenne may not have a seating capacity for seven in a third row, it has plenty of features and excellent driving dynamics.
If you’re considering getting behind the wheel of a two-row 2022 Porsche Cayenne, the
car insurance
super app and licensed broker,
Jerry
, has all the details. We’ll cover the passenger and cargo specs for the Cayenne and the best three-row SUV alternatives if you need a more spacious ride.

Does the Porsche Cayenne have a 3rd row?

The Porsche Cayenne doesn’t have a third row of seating. It comfortably seats five and has plenty of cargo space. Cayenne is a blank canvas for drivers to customize as they see fit. Want Alcantara suede seating and a colored seat belt? No problem. The Cayenne also comes with more traditional features like heated and ventilated front and rear seats, extra seat support, and four-zone climate control.
With ample passenger capacity and cargo volume — 27 cubic feet of rear cargo space and up to 60 cubic feet behind the front seats — you won’t have to dig to find a home for your belongings. Every Cayenne also comes with a power-operated liftgate and an optional passive-entry system that opens or closes the liftgate with a foot gesture.

Space and comfort

If you’re driving for hours at a time, you want an SUV that won’t leave you achy upon arrival.
Comfort is subjective, cargo and passenger space isn’t. How does the Cayenne’s passenger space stack up? We don’t have the exact measurements for the 2022 cayenne, but it’s expected to be similar to the 2021 model year:
  • Second row: 36 inches of legroom, 38.9 inches of headroom
  • First row: 40.6 to 67.1 inches of legroom, 39.6 inches of headroom
  • Total passenger volume: N/A
As for cargo, the Cayenne packs a decent amount of space in the rear, but not as much as some of its two-row competitors:
  • Cargo space/area behind the second row: 27.2 cubic feet
  • Cargo space/area behind the first row: 60.3 cubic feet
The standard Cayenne body has significantly more cargo space than the coupe, which has just 22 cubic feet behind the second row and 54.3 cubic feet behind the first. Both of the coupe’s rows of seating are similarly generous with legroom. Plus, the front seats can extend backward to accommodate tall people or those with long legs.
That said, if you’re still needing some extra space, opt for a three-row SUV like the
Audi Q7
,
Acura MDX
, or
Lexus RX
. Check out the table below for the passenger volume measurements for eight of the best three-row SUVs.

Is the Porsche Cayenne good for big families and long trips?

The five-seater Cayenne isn't designed for large families, but if you’re looking to travel long distances, it’s hard to rival Porsche’s level of comfort customizability. Choose from more supportive seats, massaging front seats, four-zone climate control, and more — it’s a fantastic road trip SUV:
  • Best-in-class safety features: The 2022 Cayenne hasn’t been crash-tested by
    NHTSA
or the IIHS, but older models received a five-star safety rating from The European New Car Assessment Programme (EuroNCAP). Available driver-assistance technology includes forward-collision warning, parking sensors, and optional infrared cameras for better night vision.
  • Available plug-in hybrid powertrain: The E-Hybrid Cayenne features a 455-hp turbocharged V6 engine with an electric motor that is quick on the street and friendlier to the environment and your wallet.
  • Sportscar speed with family-friendly features: With top-notch safety features, impeccable style, and jaw-dropping speed, driving the Cayenne feels like you’re in a Porsche sports car, but with all the functionality and safety of a luxury family-friendly SUV.
