background
The seats of your Honda Jazz, also known as a Honda Fit, can be removed by unfastening the mounting bolts that fix it to the car floor before carefully taking the seats out of the cabin area.
One of the great things about owning a hatchback vehicle is the versatility of its interior. The Honda Jazz (sold in the US under the name
Honda Fit
) has back seats that fold down flush with the cargo space so you probably won’t need to remove them for extra storage, but all of the seats can be removed completely—just make sure you know what you're doing to prevent getting hurt or damaging your car!
In this article, we'll walk you through the seat removal process for your Honda Jazz. Let's get started.

Can you remove the seats from a Honda Jazz?

Yes, you can—but it takes a little elbow grease. Keep in mind that none of Honda Jazz’s seats are meant to be taken out all the time. Depending on what the situation calls for you might be able to meet your need for more storage space by folding the back seats down
First things first, let's look at a few crucial safety tips you may want to adhere to before removing the seats from a Honda Jazz:
  • Wear gloves. Work gloves are a great precautionary measure to keep you from sustaining a hand injury while you remove the seats.
  • Put a tarp down on the car floor. If you’re planning on loading up the Jazz’s cargo area after the seats are removed, putting a tarp down to cover the exposed seat tracks and keep the carpet clean is a good idea.
  • Hang onto those bolts. The seat removal will require you to loosen some bolts—keep them somewhere safe and handy for when you are ready to reinstall the seats.

How to remove the front seat from a Honda Jazz

Ready to make some room? Follow these steps to remove the passenger’s seat of the Honda Jazz:
  • If your car has a side airbag, disconnect the negative battery cable. After you disconnect the cable, wait at least three minutes before continuing to work on the seat.
  • Remove the inner and outer seat tracks and end covers. There are front and rear seat tracks so you’ll need to remove both sets of tracks and ends.
  • Remove the bolts that secure the front seat to the floor.  Some models also have harness clips anchoring the seat. You’ll need to remove these as well.
  • Have someone help you lift and remove the front seat. It will fit through the passenger door.

How to remove the back seats from a Honda Jazz

If you need to take out the back seats, here are the steps:
  • Pull all three seatbelt buckles and the center seatbelt anchor through the seat cushions. This makes it easier to lift the seat cushions up.
  • Release the fasteners on both rear seatbacks. The fasteners connect the back of the rear seats to the carpet.
  • Fold the back seats down. From here you should be able to easily access the front of the spare tire lid which you’ll pull back to find the seatback clips. Detach both clips.
  • Locate and remove the seat bolts. Again, once you’ve unscrewed the bolts holding the seats down, put them somewhere safe where you can find them later.
  • Lift the back seats out of the vehicle. Take the seats out one at a time through the opening of the rear hatchback door.

How do you put the back seats down in a Honda Jazz?

To gain more space without removing any seats in your Honda Jazz, it’s a pretty straightforward process. Here’s what you need to do:
  • Put all three headrests in their lowest position
  • Clear the floor in front of the backseat
  • If the center seat has a lap belt, store it in the back of the rear seat.
  • Pull up on the lever on the back of each seat as you guide them down.
That was easy! When you want to return the seats to an upright position, pull up on the lever again as you lift the seat. You should hear it click back into place.
