WHY YOU CAN TRUST JERRY

The proper Scion xB tire pressure is 35 pounds per square inch (psi) in the front tires and 31 or 32 psi in the rear, depending on the tires.
Learning how to inflate your tires properly is an important step toward protecting yourself and your car while driving, but more than that, it’s also crucial for the safety of other drivers and pedestrians on the road. Tires that are incorrectly inflated can cause problems like unstable steering, poor gas mileage, and even a tragic blowout. While each of these issues is extremely dangerous, they can cause expensive damage to your vehicle.
Today, we’ll explain how to maintain your tires so you can feel confident behind the wheel.

What is the correct tire pressure for a Scion xB?

The correct tire pressure for a Scion xB is 35 psi in the front tires and 31 or 32 psi in the rear, depending on the tires installed on the car.
While the above values represent the proper tire pressure settings for most Scion xB cars, there are some instances in which the pressure settings should be different. Older xBs, like the 2005 and 2006 models, have a lower tire pressure specification—for these model years, the correct tire pressure is 29 psi in the front and rear.
Additionally, if you install new or high-performance tires on your Scion, the proper tire pressure may change. Always remember, whenever you modify your vehicle in any way, you need to check the specifications for the new parts to ensure you set your car up properly.

How to check Scion xB tire pressure

Regardless of whether your car runs on gas, diesel, electricity, or something else, it’s going to require a lot of regular maintenance. Your tires are no different. However, unlike some other forms of vehicle maintenance, checking your tire pressure is quick and easy.
The only tool you need to check the tire pressure in your Scion xB is a
tire pressure gauge
. Once you have one, you’ll need to locate the valve stems on each of your tires. Then, remove the caps and press the gauge into each stem to receive a pressure reading—you can use that reading to raise or lower your air pressure as needed.
Alternatively, your car might notify you that your tire pressure is too low before you have a chance to check the tires yourself. That’s because your Scion is equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TMPS) that will display a warning light—it looks similar to an exclamation mark inside a tire—if the pressure falls too low. If you notice this light on your dash, check your tires before you find yourself stranded on the side of the road.

How often should you check your Scion xB tire pressure?

We’ve already mentioned that properly inflated tires are vital for your safety while driving. Because of this, it’s critical that you check your tires at least once a month and before taking any road trips or extended highway drives.

How to tell if your Scion xB needs new tires

Most car owners average 12,000 to 15,000 miles driven per year. If you drive your Scion the average amount, you’ll probably need new tires every three years. But even though it might still be a while before you need to replace your tires, checking their condition each time you inspect your tire pressure is a smart plan.
If your tires have bumps or cracks, exposed wires, or low tread, it’s time to replace them.
If you don’t know how to inspect your tires’ condition, you can purchase a cheap tread depth gauge from an auto parts store or use the penny method
To check your tires with the penny method, you’ll need to stick a US penny head-first into your tire’s tread. If you’re able to see any of the 16th president’s head, you need to start looking for new tire deals.

How to reset the Scion xB tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) light

It’s always frustrating when the low tire pressure warning light remains lit on your dash, especially if you’re sure that the tires are properly inflated. If you experience this problem, you may need to
reset the TPMS
To do this on a Scion xB, you’ll first need to ensure that each tire—including the spare—is inflated to the proper pressure level. Then, follow the steps below.
  1. Turn your ignition key to the “ON” position but do not start the engine.
  2. Locate the TPMS reset button underneath the steering wheel.
  3. Hold down the button until you see the warning light flash three times.
  4. Release the button and turn off the ignition.
Following these steps should reset your Scion xB TPMS. However, if this process does not work, you’ll need to take your car to the dealership or an independent tire shop for further inspection and repairs.
